September 2014: The Return of Jesus Christ!

It is patently unBiblical to know the date when Jesus will return (Mark 13:32). Yet, I find it quite amazing that even as clearly stated as that Scripture is, people are still lead astray by others who say “they know!”

For example, during the 1800's, William Miller said that he figured out when Jesus would return and led many astray. Hiram Edson was one of those individuals and it's because of him, along with the help of James and Ellen White, that we have the cult known as the Seventh Day Adventist.

As I start this new year, I can't help but wonder how would my life change if I knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Jesus was going to return this year? How about you? Would it bring excitement or would your stomach drop to your feet? It's an interesting thought and should give us, at least for a brief moment, pause.

So this year, before you make your New Years resolution, ask yourself, if Jesus was returning in nine months, how would that effect your New Years resolution?

Let me know in the comments below.

R.I.P. Ron and Vickie Seres

Ron was going to retire on December 20, 2013.
But on December 14th, six days shy, his plans forever changed when he stepped off into eternity. He had no idea it was coming. Ron and his wife Vickie had just finished renovating their home, installing solar panels, and were enjoying an empty nest. There are many people who could tell you how excited he was at the prospect of only having to work a few days a week. They had plans for the future.

Everything can change in a moment!
For Ron and his wife it came as they were driving down the road. Going through a green light, a van coming off the highway ran the red light and side swiped them, flipping their car several times. Ron spent a lot of time on the road over the years. He was a lead school bus driver in Round Rock Texas. But there was nothing he could do. It was the recklessness of the driver behind the wheel of the van. He was pronounced dead at the scene but his wife made it to the hospital before she died.

Everyday, over 150,000 people die!
We know that we are going to die, we just never believe it's any time soon. Somehow, no matter how old we are, we think of death only in terms of way down the road. But in reality, any one of us could join that statistic before the end of the day. A car wreck, a heart attack, a stray bullet- it could be any number of things that aid our entrance into eternity. So if we can die at any moment, then the only logical thing to do is prepare for it.

How do you prepare for death?
If you were going to meet a stranger in another state, you would be nervous, and rightly so. Going hundreds of miles to meet someone you don't know would be nerve racking. However, if you began to communicate with that person first, talk to them through phone calls, emails, or letters, you would begin to feel more comfortable. You would learn their likes and dislikes, and each new thing you learned would ease your fears of meeting them. The trip would still be worrisome, but it would be manageable. The fear of the unknown would be lessened the more you knew about the person you're going to meet.

Getting to know God!
For the Christian, we can overcome our fear of death through prayer and Bible study. Finding out everything we can about Him is paramount to easing our fears. The unknown becomes known and our relationship with Almighty God grows and deepens!

If you haven't taken that first step-
Please, take a moment and watch the video at the bottom of this post. It's very short, but it's packed with everything you need to begin a relationship with God.

I'm going to miss Ron.
I pray for all his family and friends. That each one will find themselves seeking after God for the comfort and peace that only He can provide. I pray that this Christmas season will not be lost on them, but will bring them hope in the Savior whose birth we celebrate.

Rest in peace Ron and Vickie Seres
